Wild rice was grown and eaten in Semmes.

Indians had a trail beside Allentown Cemetary to the sea.  Once a year the Indians would travel this trail.  They would barter with the settlers along the trail to borrow pots to use to gather salt from the sea.  Sea water would be boiled until all that was left was salt.  They would return on the trail giving the pots back with a portion of salt for their use.

Deep ruts have been found where wagon trains used to travel.

The Town of Semmes was laid out in November, 1900, Book 3 Page 484 by Semmes Land Company.

Semmes had a large hotel in 1902 by the railroad tracks.

At one time there was a daily passenger train that passed thru Semmes and went down to the loop in Mobile.

A gentleman who lived in Semmes met the train every day, and if anyone didn't look right to him, he would them them to get on the train and keep going.
