Semmes Heritage Quilters

Pearls of laughter, talking and quilting takes place every Monday at 9 AM till 12 Noon in the Malone Chapel.

There are both novice and experiences quilters in this group.  Everyone is welcome.  Quilting is done the old fashioned way, by hand.

A vintage 1920's quilt top is being quilted.  The scrappy quilt top was made in the 1920's by the mother of Elizabeth Dodd.  Dodd can remember one piece of the material was from a dress that she wore as a young girl.  In the early days of quilting, quilts were made to keep you warm.  Old clothing and other materials were recycled into quilts.

A second quilt is being made of individual octagon pieces that are hand quilted and then sewn together to make a quilt.  It is constructed in the same fashion as a cathedral quilt.

Both quilts will be raffled off to raise funds for Heritage Park.  Raffle tickets will be available at $5.00 each.  You may purchase a ticket for either quilt or for both.

Semmes Heritage Park is a volunteer non-profit 501(c3) organization.  Funds are received from donations, fund raisers, grants, chapel rental and field trips.
